Fort Pickens Campground is located on Santa Rosa Island at the Gulf Islands National Seashore. It's a large pet-friendly campground with 137 water and electric sites suitable for RVs and another 40 tent sites without electricity. Clean bathrooms, free private showers and coin laundry are available for campers.
This was our second time to Fort Pickens Campground, our first in our beloved Jucy. We stayed in loop D which has smaller sites for class-B RVs and trucks with camper shells. Loops A, C and E accommodate class A and C RVs, trailers and 5th wheels. Loop B is reserved for ground tent camping.
The campground is walking distance to the sparkling white sand beach of Santa Rosa Island, a 40-mile long barrier island. With no crowds (during a January stay) or development, it's a gorgeous beach to enjoy a sunset.
Fort Pickens, about a mile away, is accessible by car, bike or on foot. A section of the Florida Trail, one of only 11 National Scenic Trails in the U.S., runs through the campground makes a pleasant walk or bike ride to the historic fort.
